Frequently Asked Questions
WHAT IS THE SOCAL BASKETBALL PROGRAM?
We’re a community-driven youth basketball organization for kids from kindergarten through 12th grade in Los Angeles and Orange County. We operate on a Sponsored Tuition Model, meaning players get 1–2 real games per week with $0 Monthly Tuition. We are currently expanding throughout Southern California.
WHAT IS THE $100 ATTENDANCE PERFORMANCE BOND?
To maintain a $0 Monthly Tuition model, we need to ensure players who sign up actually show up. The Attendance Performance Bond is a refundable security deposit (not a fee) that guarantees your commitment. It ensures teams can form properly and games aren't cancelled.
IS THE BOND REFUNDABLE?
Yes. The $100 Bond is eligible for return during the league's annual Refund Window (September 1–15), provided your child attends their scheduled games and has zero unexcused "No-Shows" on their record.
WHAT IF MY CHILD MISSES A GAME?
Missing a game is fine as long as you communicate. You must RSVP "No" by the Monday 8:00 PM deadline preceding the game. As long as you notify us by that deadline, your Bond is safe.
WHAT IF WE DON’T SHOW UP WITHOUT NOTICE?
An unannounced "No-Show" (missing a game without RSVPing "No" by Monday 8:00 PM) results in the forfeiture of the $100 Bond as Liquidated Damages. This isn't a penalty; it covers the cost of roster disruption and administrative fixes. Imagine your child showing up ready to play, but the other team has only 3 kids. We have to cancel the game. That’s why the rule exists.
WHY IS THERE A DOOR FEE FOR SPECTATORS?
Because we do not charge monthly tuition, we rely on spectator admission fees to fund the league's operations. The $15 spectator fee covers gym rental, referees, insurance, staffing, and administrative overhead. This model allows players to participate for $0 monthly.
WHAT DOES THE PROGRAM INCLUDE?
Players get weekly a 1 hour practice plus 1–2 games per week, each one hour long. Games are supervised by trained coaches and referees in a pool-style format, which builds skills and helps kids meet new teammates.
WHERE ARE GAMES HELD?
At gyms throughout Orange County, primarily in Anaheim. We’re expanding into Costa Mesa and Dana Point next plus additional areas around Southern California.
HOW DO I REGISTER MY CHILD?
Register online. You’ll complete the registration form and sign the Terms of Participation & Waiver. After that, your player is assigned to an age group and receives a schedule.
ARE SPOTS LIMITED?
Yes. To maintain quality and safety, enrollment is capped. Registration is first-come, first-served.
CAN MY CHILD JOIN MID-SEASON?
If space is available, yes. Our pool-style system makes it easy to integrate new players at any time.
WHAT IF MY CHILD WANTS MORE COMPETITION?
Once they’re playing and enjoying the game, we can introduce our Club/Travel Team options for those seeking a higher level of competition.
WHAT IS THE GAME SCHEDULE?
Players get 1–2 games per week. Days and times depend on age group and gym availability.
HOW LONG IS THE SEASON?
Season is endless. Anyone can enroll at any time and you play only the weeks you are available.
CAN PARENTS WATCH GAMES?
Absolutely. Families are welcome! Please note that spectators pay the $15 door fee, while players always enter for free.
WHAT SHOULD MY CHILD BRING?
Basketball shoes (or athletic shoes), the Required League Jersey, water, and a positive attitude.
HOW CAN I SUPPORT THE PROGRAM?
You can purchase a Community Sponsorship Package ($35).
Note: SoCal Basketball Club is a for-profit organization. Sponsorships support general business operations and are not tax-deductible charitable donations.
WHY POOL-STYLE INSTEAD OF FIXED TEAMS?
Pool-style play helps kids learn different positions, adapt to new teammates, and build skills. It’s ideal for beginners and casual players. Families wanting a fixed team can explore our Club program.
WHO SUPERVISES THE GAMES?
Trained coaches and referees who have passed background checks. We maintain a ratio of about 1 staff member for every 10–15 players.
CAN I VOLUNTEER?
Yes! We need volunteer coaches. A background check and completion of safety training are required.
WHAT IF I HAVE OTHER VOLUNTEER SKILLS?
We’re always open to help. Let us know your area of interest.
WHAT SAFETY MEASURES DO YOU HAVE?
We utilize background-checked staff, trained personnel, liability insurance, and established youth safety protocols.
WHAT IS YOUR CANCELLATION POLICY?
Since games are indoors, cancellations are rare. If a facility issue occurs, families will be notified at least 2 hours before game time via text/email.
WHAT IF MY CHILD HAS NEVER PLAYED BEFORE?
Perfect. Complete beginners are welcome. Pool-style play creates a low-pressure learning environment.
